Manual cleaning often fails to disinfect, but nebulization device can effectively assist

As many studies have suggested, patients are at increased risk of infection by the pathogen from previous patient. Effective disinfection of clinic surfaces and equipment has been standard procedure to protect against hospital pathogens transmission.

Noncritical items are the items that are in contact with intact skin but not mucous membranes, for instances, medical equipment such as dental chair. These items are usually disinfected with a low-level disfectant.

However, a study published in Antimicrobial Resistance & Infection Control journal has shown that although manual disinfection is an essential step of disinfection, without another adjunctive method to clean, the disinfection of medical devices is prone to failure. Some medical equipment may even be hard to manually cleaned.

What can be done as an adjunctive method to better disinfect? A study published in American Journal of Infection Control did a comparative experiment of a before and after active nebulization cleaning method. The results showed that the bacterial burden demonstrated as the colony forming units (CFU) were reduced by 90% of 45% of objects. Therefore, nebulization disinfection method was advised as a useful non-manual adjunctive method.

study by Amodio et al showed the median CFU/cm2 count drop significantly in many noncritical items after the nebulized detergent treatment.

In MedicAmins, we introduce the Safety Spot by Techo-Gaz. Safety Spot is a nebulization device that can be used with liquid detergent. It is easy to use, and the device is light to carry.  It is ideal for dental clinics and other clinics as well.
